Connecting to Inherent Natural Health, Listening to the Body
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle yet profound approach focused on listening and subtle touch. It engages with the movements of life, various tissues, and the cerebrospinal fluid system, which expresses a primary life force known as the “Breath of Life.”
The field of Craniosacral therapy evolved from Osteopathy, pioneered by William G. Sutherland.
Osteopathy specializes in four primary human systems: Musculoskeletal (Structural), Circulatory (Vascular), Internal Organs (Visceral), and Nervous System (Neurological). In its osteopathic origins, Craniosacral therapy is the fifth system developed, featuring dedicated techniques for diagnosis and treatment.
There are three main approaches of Craniosacral therapy:
- Mechanical-Osteopathic Craniosacral
- Biodynamic Craniosacral
- Spiritual-Energetic Craniosacral
The Biodynamic approach was first developed by Dr. Rollin Becker, who identified the system’s inherent natural capacity to recognize, release, reorganize, and self-heal. Later, Franklin Sills formalized the Biodynamic Craniosacral method. This approach emphasizes rhythms beyond the physiological and tissue levels, integrating verbal skills, somatic-emotional work, and active patient involvement and empowerment within the process.
The training provided by Shaily Feinberg, on behalf of the Israeli Center for Biodynamic Craniosacral & Polarity IBCPC, combines in-depth study of anatomy and physiology with profound sensory experience. It incorporates real-life examples and clinical experience, teaching presence, space-holding, and subtle touch relationships.
The training covers somatic-emotional work and self-regulation alongside verbal skills and connection to the layers of psyche and energy.
The Uniqueness of Biodynamic Craniosacral in the Context of Trauma
The Biodynamic Craniosacral method emphasizes the importance of the body’s sensory experience as an essential complementary therapeutic tool to verbal approaches, such as psychotherapy. It integrates tools from the worlds of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Focusing.
The unique emphasis of this method lies in learning anatomy and physiology through direct bodily experience, while identifying and understanding the life movements and tissues related to trauma and pain. Through awareness and physical sensation, each participant becomes an active partner in their own healing process, allowing for a renewed and natural connection to internal healing forces.
Biodynamic Craniosacral also provides tools for presence and the proper “holding of space” to create a deep, delicate bond of trust—both with and without touch—fostering an environment of profound safety and personal development.
